According to a recent MReport and a survey conducted by unclutter.com, many homeowners are seeking to move post-pandemic. Unclutter.com, which is a home and office organization website, conducted a survey by researchers to find out why Americans are planning on relocating. The most popular response was that many Americans reported they are either bored with their current location or wanting to move away from populated cities and towns. Many reported that they want to put down roots in less populated areas. The survey results revealed that Texans are the least happy with where they currently reside. 39% of respondents living in Texas reported they were bored of their hometown and wish to migrate somewhere else. Additionally, the report stated “almost 50% of Texans who live in cities and urban areas reported a desire to not only move, but to move out of the current metros and into the quieter, more spacious suburbs”. Residents of Main, Connecticut, Delaware, and Oklahoma are also dissatisfied with where they currently live.
WHY ARE AMERICANS EAGER TO MOVE?
In the past few months, with the stay-at-home orders and the lockdowns, many Americans are realizing how much they value having ample amount of space outside of their home. Many of those who responded to the survey stated that they now realize that they wished they had a garden or the enjoyment of a large yard space. In addition, simply having more space between neighbors has become a desired commodity in this increasingly social distancing-centric climate. Americans are moving further from densely populated cities because they are able to find larger homes with outdoor space for a lesser price. Experts in the real estate industry have also been reporting a recent spike in online home searches in suburban zip codes. Alexander Brown from unclutter.com stated: “The pandemic has made a lot of us look at things differently. Moving home is a big undertaking, but worth it for the benefits you get if you choose more space and a more relaxed pace of life. Packing up a household can be hard, but it’s a good opportunity to get rid of all the things you don’t need any more, and organizing your new space”.
