‘Tis the season of giving! At Gemstone we believe a giving community is a strong community, so we’d like to share with you some of our favorite local charities to remember as you plan your year-end giving. Being the animal lovers we are, there are several groups we like to support who care for and nurture our furry friends. And, being a Veteran, supporting Veteran organizations is a core value for us.
Animal Aid Organizations:
Northeast Georgia Humane Society – In operation since 1913, the Northeast Georgia Humane Society is rated by GuideStar with the 2017 Platinum Seal of Transparency, which means they are responsible and open about how their donated funds are spent. A solid organization with a strong reputation, giving to HSNEGA will see to it that your love of animals and their welfare will be used wisely. Donate in December and your gift will be doubled!
SANG – Save the Animals of Northeast Georgia – SANG is a rescue and sanctuary for homeless, aging and ill dogs who have been abandoned. The sanctuary cares for the dogs and provides them with the love and comfort they need for their end-of-life journey. Their mission: “SANG is dedicated to finding homes for homeless dogs that would otherwise be euthanized. We educate the public about the importance of spaying and neutering, and assist other animal rescues in their efforts.”
Georgia ASPCA – The local ASPCA’s mission is to reduce pet population by rescuing and finding homes for cats and dogs who might otherwise be euthanized in high-kill shelters. The ASPCA also serves the community by educating people about responsible pet ownership.
Veteran’s Organizations:
Northeast Georgia Homeless Veterans Shelter – Located in Winder, the shelter’s mission is to provide food, shelter, job skills and life in a clean, safe Christian environment. Caring for our country’s military heroes and guiding them to success in society is a value we wholeheartedly support.
Fisher House – A national network of “comfort homes” where veterans’ families can stay for free while a loved one is receiving medical treatment. Fort Gordon in the Augusta area is the closest Fisher House, servicing the Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center.
Team Rubicon – A national organization dedicated to training Veterans for disaster response. This unique marriage of skills supports both communities affected by disasters and transitioning veterans, who have the skills, experience and leadership required when disasters strike. Team Rubicon is also rated at Platinum by GuideStar.
