Ah, love. It’s something we should celebrate everyday, but we do get a reminder once a year to go bigger: Valentine’s Day. We think love is grand, and we love where we live, so we want to share with you some local Valentine’s Day date ideas.

Escape for the Day – Head to Helen! We think Helen is a lovely place to visit and soak up some Northeast Georgia flavor. There’s wine tasting in the area, and Kaya Vineyards is hosting a Chocolate and Wine Tasting event this coming weekend, Feb 10-12, and again the following weekend, Feb 17-19. Make it a family thing – Our region is wonderfully family-friendly, but we’re also aware that finding a sitter for the week of Valentine’s Day can be, shall we say…challenging? Save the headache, invite another family with children the same age over and have a special dinner, complete with Valentine’s Day cards, actvities and dessert. Gigi’s Cupcakes in Athens has some amazing selections. If Gigi’s isn’t convenient for you, check out Bulldawg Food – you may be able to order and have them delivered!

Make it a community thing – We are passionate about caring for animals, and the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia is hosting their annual Art with Heart event on February 24th. This makes a wonderful gift – an evening out and helping a great cause. Proceeds from the benefit go to NSNEGA’s efforts to rescue and rehome abandoned animals. Tickets are $100 per couple and include heavy h’oeuvres and a complimentary wine bar sponsored by Barefoot Bubbly & Wine.

Make it an outdoor adventure – Head to Toccoa Falls! A one-hour drive from Hull, Toccoa Falls is a fantastic spot to take in the natural beauty of Northeast Georgia. At 186 feet high, Toccoa is 19 feet higher than Niagara, and not difficult to access. Once you’ve taken in the natural wonder, head to the City of Toccoa’s historic downtown and shop at the local businesses.
