According to a recent MReport article, Wells Fargo is teaming up with Habitat for Humanity to improve housing assistance programs. If you are not familiar with Habitat for Humanity, they are a nonprofit organization that partners with families in need of affordable housing. The nonprofit relies on volunteers and donations to build and revive homes for families in need. This is not the first time Wells Fargo has donated to Habitat for Humanity. In 2019, they donated $10.7 million dollars to the organization. Since 2010 they have given roughly $89.4 million dollars.

WHAT DOES THIS PARTNERSHIP INCLUDE?

Wells Fargo has taken a pledge to give $1 billion dollars over the next six years to help alleviate the affordable housing crisis. According to the article, Brandee McHale, the head of philanthropy at Wells Fargo, said “Housing affordability is a major issue affecting communities across the U.S., as far too many families struggle with the burden of paying half or more of their household incomes to keep a roof over their heads”. The plan of action for the partnership is to focus on areas in extreme need of assistance. These areas include, California, Colorado, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia. The companies intend to revive communities by making repairs on homes and building new ones. Julie Laird Davis, Habitat’s VP of corporate partnerships and cause marketing said, “We are so grateful for the Wells Fargo partnership and the impact that will be made across the country.”
